This is an older model. it started out as an experiment in how to design a ship around extruded hull plates. It worked really well and I learned a lot about simplifying models.
The ship is designed to be a support vessel. The ship is capable of spending long periods of time in deep space as part of a larger force, but is most frequently assigned as a workhorse for stations and bases. In a pinch, it can be outfitted with four large phaser cannons and serve as a fast destroyer
The original idea behind the turret mounts was that they would be hardpoints where different self-sufficient modules could be installed. The phaser turret could be removed, leaving a circular void in the hull, and operate as a stationary turret separate from the ship. Other modules might be sensor packages, data storage, or cargo holds.
The name of this ship is based on it’s role as a “sidekick” to larger ships and stations. The U.S.S. Panza and the U.S.S. Watson are examples of other ships in this class.
