USS Haskell - Model for small scale printing3D ModelNoAI
The Haskell-class of transport ships were designed and built during the second world war by the US. Their design was based on the Victory-class of merchant ships which were constructed to combat the high losses of merchants in both threatres. Their main task was to carry landing ships and their troops to islands where they would then be unloaded. 117 units were built, with some of them serving in Korea and even Vietnam. The last few units were scrapped in the early 2000s.
Due to the high amount of troops oboard and the high number, these ships proved to be highly effective in capturing the many islands which Imperial Japan held. Since they could be anchored offshore and support the troops from far away, there was little the ground forces could do against them. However, several ships were hit by kamikazes, resulting in sometimes great damage. Once the war was over, most units were used in operation Magic Carpet, where the soldiers were transported back to the US.
