An original TNG-Era Star Trek design. This close cousin to the Galaxy class was initially developed as a “Galor-killer” at the height of the Cardassian War. The launch of the Minotaur class project was delayed in order to incorporate newly developed weapon systems designed to counter the emerging Borg threat. Following the battle of Wolf 359, the Federation Council resolved to permanently assign one Minotaur class heavy battlecruiser to each of its founding worlds in order to act as a fast responder to unpredictable and overwhelming threats such as the Borg, while avoiding the prohibitive cost of continuously operating a dreadnought or battleship. There are currently four Minotaur class starships in service, with three additional spaceframes on standby.
