This is my very first starship (also the USS Ranger, but much less organically shaped) - reimagined as a Star Trek ship. I love the sailing ship shape with the huge keel. It is also a nod (so deep it’s more of a bow) toward the Starship Titanic, which is the best starship design ever made (IMO).
In my headcanon for this ship, it is a warp test ship with a reinforced hull and sensors and warp field stabalizers built into the keel. The keel dips into the warp field and monitors things through areas where subspace may be unstable. This ship would go into an unknown area ahead of a larger task force. The robustly stabalized warp field allows this ship to go places others can’t. And, this hsip can sense whether other ships would be safe. It would be used to chart navigatinal pathways through nebulas and near subspace phenomena.
