Designed by Samuel Humphreys, it had 100ft in length, 25ft beam (wide) and 11ft depth and was armed with twelve 32pnd carronades. It was launched in New York in April, 1842.

It sank on December 8, 1846, off Veracruz while chasing another ship, caught by a squall that made it capsize and sink. About half of its crew survived.
