Giraffa, known commonly as giraffes, are a genus of even-toed ungulates from modern-day Africa. The giraffe fossil record goes to the Miocene of Eurasia and Africa, with the gradual lengthening of neck vertebrae over the course of the group’s evolution. It’s possible that the direct fossil ancestor to modern giraffes originated in Asia, and migrated to Africa in response to climate change. Their closest relative is the okapi, another even-toed ungulate from Central Africa. This specimen shows the complete skull of the animal.
