Taxonomy: Reptilia>Chelonia>Chisternon undatum>Protochelydra sp.
Protochelydra was a genus of snapping turtle from the Paleocene and Eocene of North America. While closely related to modern snapping turtles, it’s possible that the shell shapes of several Protochelydra indicate coexistence with turtle-eating crocodylians. While modern snapping turtles are restricted to North and Central America, other relatives of snapping turtles have been found in the fossil records of Eurasia. This specimen shows a skull.
