Taxonomy: Mammalia>Creodonta>Hyaenodontidae>Hyaenodon sp.
Hyaenodon was a genus of carnivorous mammal that existed from the mid-Eocene to mid-Miocene of Eurasia, North America, and Africa. Hyaenodon belongs to the Creodonta group, which is closely related to modern Carnivora. Ranging in size from small dogs to, in some instances, ton-sized animals, Hyaenodon has been interpreted as primary predators in many instances, and evidence of coexisting with other large predators has been found. This specimen is a near-complete skull and lower jaw of Hyaenodon, slightly warped from fossilization.
