Megalonychidae, also known as ground sloths, were a group of xenarthran mammal from the late Oligocene to late Pleistocene of South America and North America. As part of the sloth group, Megalonychidae were predominantly herbivorous, but were large and lived on the ground. The first ground sloths show up in North America during the Pliocene and likely swam over befure the Isthmus of Panama formed. This specimen shows the left half of a lower jaw.
