According to folk beliefs, turning into wolves is the most common type of werewolves among the Slavs. It is known from antiquity and to some extent is present in all Slavic peoples, best represented among Byelorussians, Poles and Ukrainians. In Russian beliefs, the character was more often called a werewolf, the image has a clear resemblance to a wolf-crow. South Slavic ideas mix wolves with ghouls (vampires)
