This is the Italian Valmara 69 (V-69), a High-Explosive (HE), cylindrical, plastic-bodied, Anti-Personnel (AP), bounding landmine that is designed to wound or kill by its fragmentation. The Valmara 69 is a progression of the earlier Valmara 59 both manufactured in Italy. The main difference is the outer body material which is plastic as opposed to the sheet metal outer body of the Valmara 59. The minor changes to the landmine were made for cost-saving purposes, not performance enhancement. The Valmara 69 has a smooth appearance and the top resembles a knurled screw-on cap. The five-pronged fuze assembly, which contains a spring-loaded striker and retaining ball, is attached to the top of the landmine by a bayonet fitting. The landmine is actuated by the pressure of 10kg on the prongs or pull of 6kg on a tripwire. Do not move an armed landmine unless necessary.
