Da Genga 25.000 a.C.

Questa straordinaria statuetta in calcite, ricavata da una stalattite del posto, è stato recentemente rinvenuto casualmente nella grotta della Beata Vergine di Frasassi. La figura, monumentale nonostante le ridottissime dimensioni (8,7 cm di altezza e 66,5 gr di peso), ha forme generose, ed è rappresentata nell’atteggiamento inconsueto di piegare in avanti gli avambracci con le mani congiunte. Poche masse schematiche riassumono con assoluta efficacia le parti del corpo: sul volto ovoidale, appena abbozzato, si riconoscono a stento i lineamenti, e la parte posteriore del capo è separata da un solco, forse ad indicare le chiome. Tra le braccia accostate al busto prorompono i grandi seni circolari e il ventre prominente della gravidanza è messo ancor più in risalto da un’incisione profonda, che separa il triangolo pelvico e la vulva.
