More model informationVertical cells Pain is a sensation perceived by the brain. Triggers like heat, cold, touch and pressure are initially processed by a complex network of nerve cells within the spinal cord. One of those cells are the vertical cells shown here. Vertical cells are thought to play an important role in our ability to feel pain because it is believed they process information related to pain onto projection neurons, which, in turn, send it to the brain.
