Victoria Cave 3D Model
Victoria Cave in the Yorkshire Dales for the Under the Uplands Project. Situated along Brent scar at SD83846505 and 411m AOD, and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM13246) owned by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. Discovered in 1836/7 by Michael Horner of Settle. Excavations began in earnest in 1870 by Joseph Jackson and continued until 1878 when funds for the excavation ended The excavation uncovered pleistocene fauna including hyens, short nosed rhinoceros and straight tusked elephant all belonging to the Ipswichian approx 120,000 years ago. A number of brown bear skulls were recovered from 14,000 years ago and the largest collection of Romano-British artefacts from any cave in the UK was uncovered.
