Impression of a writing tablet discovered in the excavations at Vindolanda. The tablets are small and delicate, so this impression was made to show the handwriting more clearly and without risk.

This tablet, written by Claudia Severa, invites Sulpicia Lepidina, the wife of the commanding officer at Vindolanda, to a birthday party. This is the oldest evidence of handwriting from a woman in Britain, written in Roman cursive script.
