More model information

A virtual reconstruction of the cemetery in Rosewood, Florida - site of a 1923 race riot that destroyed a multi-generational, majority African American community. This virtual cemetery is offered as a memorial to those who lived and died at the site. The 3D model is based on a combination of data: the ground surface is derived from LiDAR and photogrammetry data; surviving graves documented using a mix of photogrammetry and 3D modeling; and the location of unmarked graves documented through a combinatin of mapping and ground penetrating radar (GPR) survey. The property is privately owned today (not by me), and while the landowner does permit descendants to visit the graves, it is not publicly accessible.

Learn more about Rosewood’s history by visiting the Rosewood Heritage & VR Project.. You can also read about the process of creating this model at Building the Virtual Rosewood Cemetery.
