Zochoten (Virudhaka) is a Buddhist guardian deity who protects the south. This Zochoten statue was excavated from the ruins of Shimotsukekokubunji Temple (provincial temple), and there is an opinion that it was made in the 12th century. It has been generally thought that Shimotsukekokubunji was built in the 8th century and lasted until the 11th century, but if this opinion is correct, there is a possibility that it continued until the 12th century.
