According to the brazilian legend, an indigenous woman called Araci has always dreamed of touching the moon. Every night she climbed the branches of the tallest trees hoping to reach it. One night Araci saw the reflection of the moon on a river’s surface and threw herself until the bottom in a desperate attempt to reach the moon. Realizing that she could not make it, Araci let herself drown into the river. As a tribute, the moon decided to homage the woman by creating a plant that floats on the water, so it can be always facing the moon. Victoria Regia is a typical aquatic plant from the Amazonian vegetation that received the name in honor of Queen Victoria when the British took some seeds to plant on the gardens of an English palace.
