Relocated small stone found on private farmland near Wallington, Northumberland.
This is one of a number of small artificially marked stones recorded on the Beckensall Archive (BA) in the Wallington Newhouses area. The stones and a number of querns were found near a probable Romano – British settlement. Although the exact BA reference isn’t known, NADRAP added the record to ERA as ‘Wallington Newhouses d’ and described:
‘…It comprises a single cup mark about 0.05 m diameter by 0.01 m deep. This is very smooth, though peck marks are to be seen at the bottom. The sides of the motif are very smooth with no peck marks here…’
