More model informationAlthough no lives were lost in the 1891 wreck of the W.B. Godfrey, five men were drowned later in attempts to salvage the ship’s cargo.
During the construction of the Great Ocean Road in the 1930’s a crude grave was discoverer. No attempt was made to exhume the original bodies and the road was built atop, however this marble tombstone was erected to honor those men.
The wreck itself is one of the few visible to travelers of the Great Ocean Road. On low tide a capstan and windless, as well as an anchor are visible just off shore in knee deep water.
