Well-shaped trapezohedron of Analcime (Analcite)3D ModelNoAI
Locality: Seiser Alm, Italy
No.: 6048
Size: 4 cm x 3 cm x 1.5 cm
Formula: Na(AlSi2O6) · H2O
Description: Analcime is a member of the zeolite group and often occurs together with other zeolites. However, it is closely related in structure to the feldspathoid group and is occasionally classified as a feldspathoid, together with a similar mineral Leucite. However, most mineralogical sources, including the IMA, classify Analcime only as zeolite and not as a feldspathoid.
Crystals form is distinctive, well-shaped trapezohedrons. The trapezohedron has 24 deltoid-shaped faces, where each face occupies one-third of the position of a single octahedron’s face. Crystals are usually equidimensional, though they are occasionally distorted. This crystal has a classic porcelaneous luster, nicely accented with the oxide tinting.
