In 1795, the British Army purchased some 13,500 enslaved African men to serve in the West India Regiments. The men in these units were enslaved and served for life, but performed comendably in combat in the Caribbean and West Africa. In 1809, all West India Regiment soldiers were emancipated for their service, but continued as line regiments in the Caribbean and abroad. In Antigua were the 1st, 4th, and 8th West India Regiments who were stationed in the large barracks at Middle Ground above the Naval Dockyard. This model is of the Officer’s Quarters ruins on Middle Ground where the West India Regiment served. The model was produced using the LiDAR function with the Scaniverse Pro application on an iPad Pro 12.
