More model information

The 200 ft propeller Westmoreland was built in 1853 and a year later after 18 hours fighting a blizzard in Lake Michigan sprang a leak and foundered in a December storm in 1854 near Manitou Passage killing half of the crew and passengers on board. The ship was purported to be carrying a payroll for an army garrison and barrels of whiskey which made it a sought-after treasure ship. The wreck was discovered in 2010 by wreck hunter Ross Richardson in 180 ft of water near Sleeping Bear Dunes. The model of the shipwreck was created from 3,522 30 and 50 megapixel images shot by photographers Brian Bosveld and Andrew Goodman on 30 minute DPV dives in the 2023 season.
