White Caterthun hillfort, Angus, using aerial photographs from 1997. The hiltop is capped by a great stone fort, the walls of which seem to have stood several metres high and been reinforced by great timbers. Large amounts of stone rubble are spread to a width of 20m. Within the walled enclosure is what appears to have been a rock-cut well, or cistern. Beyond the stone wall are the remains of slighter earthen ramparts.
