This species is native to the Americas, as far north as Yukon and as far south as Peru. It has been introduced in Europe, New Zealand, and Caribbean islands. A population of 700 white-tailed deer in Seneca, New York carries a recessive gene for an all-white coat. About 300 of the 700 deer express this gene.
