More model informationThe 207 ft William T. Graves was built in 1867 as a Barkentine and converted to a propeller in 1870 with twin compound engines. In 1885 while towing schooner barge GEORGE W. ADAMS bound from Chicago for Buffalo with a load of corn it stranded on the southern tip of Manitou Island with its barge. The barge was later released but the Graves was a total loss. Today all we found was a 153 foot long portion of the side of the ship. There is likely more of the ship scattered and buried under the North Manitou sand. The model was created from 1,139 30-megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman in the 2025 season.
