More model informationWhen wind and sock come together, it’s pure magic. With these extremely simple devices, a pilot can tell the wind direction and speed with very good accuracy. This one’s currently indicating about a 3-5 knot wind (3-6-ish mph). You’ll find a windsock at every airport or helipad in the US and almost everywhere in the world.
I’ll let you in on a secret:
Sometimes windsocks are placed in the middle of a sundial made on the ground below it. So if you’re savvy enough, you can tell the wind direction and speed as well as the time of day AND if you know how tall the windsock is, you can get a good estimate of the date.
