The ‘window’ is both the motif and metaphor for life in this work.
Dr Iskandar’s brisk and light applications of yellow, pink and blue colour stains are similar to the effects of a ‘watercolour wash’. These suggest the translucency of glass window panes. His use of inka (a Japanese method of stamping floral impressions with a stamp stick) create the delicate patterning reminiscent of lace curtains. Finally, a wavy branch from Sabah as its handle adds a lively movement to the piece.
This work’s fusiform body indicates that it is not a wheel-formed round vessel. The fusiform widens in its centre and tapers at both ends, resembling the shape of an eye. This special shape is best seen in the contours of its base or its mouth, as when it is viewed from the top.
