An incomplete copper alloy rotary key of Medieval date (AD 1150 to AD 1400).
The key can be described in several sections: The bow or handle, stem and bit.
The bow is flat and lozengiform, with an incomplete tubular projection (perhaps a suspension loop) at one corner, on the outside edge. Four circular perforations (holes) are present in the bow, positioned irregularly. Internal diameter of the holes is 5.8 mm.
The stem is attached to the bow at another corner. A worn rectangular triple moulding or collar is present at the junction between stem and bow. The stem is circular in cross-section and hollow.
The bit is sub-rectangular in shape and cross-section. The clefts consist of a central vertical slot with small horizontal slots on the outer edges.
