Wmid-19657a - Post Medieval shoe or knee buckle3D Model
A complete cast copper alloy three part shoe or knee buckle dating to the Jacobean period (circa 1660-1720 AD). This artefact has a trapezoidal, double-loop frame with a central strap bar. The long sides of the buckle have ridged mouldings to either side of the central bar. One of the short ends includes a pin rest either side of which are engraved oblique lines. The frame has rounded ends and concave sides and the frame bows upwards, suggesting its use as a shoe buckle rather than a knee buckle for breeches. The buckle plate or chape is an anchor type. The pin is pointed and articulates separately from the chape on the strap bar but both are fused in place. The metal forming the strap bar is iron as there is some rust present.
