Wmid-4c481a - Roman Polden Hill Brooch3D Model
An incomplete copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative, probably a Polden Hill, group 5 of Roman dating (AD 80 - AD 120).
Approximately 50% of the brooch is present consisting of the upper part of the bow and wings. The lower half of the bow, foot, spring and pin are missing. The brooch is T-shaped in plan and the wings are semi-cylindrical. The bow head and upper part of the bow is triangular in plan. The head is stepped and angular in profile, a rearward facing hook is present. A rectangular groove is present at the reverse of the head along the length of the wings. This would have originally held the spring and the pin would have extended from this, however they are both now missing. The wings have a flat incomplete wing cap. The bow extends from the head and tapers to a broken terminal which has a well developed patina. The foot is missing.
