Wmid-64f0a7 - Roman trumpet variation brooch3D Model
An incomplete trumpet variation brooch of Roman dating (AD 75 to AD 175).
The head has no wings and in plan is a vertical oval. The spring, pin and axis bar are all missing, and the perforated lug which would have held the axis bar is broken. The bow is oval in section and at the apex of the curve has moulded decoration. This decoration is in the form of transverse ridges and grooves of varying thicknesses. Between these mouldings and the head there arises a ridge or crest projecting from the front and upper surface of the brooch. The lower portion of the bow is undecorated. The foot is missing. The catchplate on the reverse is incomplete.
