In 1921, the Wong Tai Sin Temple was established at its present site in Chuk Yuen (now Wong Tai Sin), evolving from a private altar. Its founding followed a divine instruction received through spirit-writing. The initial 1920s structure was a simple and private Taoist place of worship, far more modest than the grand complex seen today. The early construction consisted of a main hall, a small pavilion, an office, dormitories, a main gate, and a well. Managed by the Sik Sik Yuen charitable organization, the temple was originally a private sanctuary for Taoist practitioners and their families before its gradual opening to the public.
