More model informationThis ‘skip’ was used for measuring coke, metal and other chemicals for the smelting cupola at G R Turner’s Vulcan Works, Langley Mill. These works mainly produced rolling stock for the railways and at its peak, employed about 350 people.
The skip is composed of broad strips of vegetation, most likely split ash, woven onto a bent wooden rimed frame.
