Title: Origenis Adamantii Operum tomi duo priores cum tabulis & indice generali proxime sequetibus.

Notes: Bound c. 1520 in full calf over wooden boards, blind stamped with Nicholas Spierinck’s distinctive patterns of imaginary beasts and carrying Spierinck’s NS monogram. Hand decorated brass claps were another distinctive feature of Spierinck’s bindings, and remnants of the clasps are still extant on the back cover. Spierinck and fellow binder Godfrey were established as the two principal stationers in Cambridge by 1520, and together with Nicholson became the first official University Printers and Stationers at Cambridge in 1534. According to the vendor, Douglas Stewart, this volume represents one of the finest examples known of a Spierinck binding, and is the only known Spierinck binding in Australia.
