Ah, now it’s World Earth Day. Very well then! There are about 30 different species of salamander within genus Ambystoma - some of the rarest living in the highlands of Mexico. Several of these are unusual in that unlike other salamanders; who transition to a terrestrial life on land, these salamanders never do - retaining functioning gills and body fins for their entire lives. With the continued development of many parts of Mexico, many of such species are now close to extinction.
