This triangular wooden feature was found on the starboard side of the stern of Wreck 4 (Whitehall ). At first, we believed this piece was a part of a hog truss, however it was too large. Second, we thought that perhaps this was the A-frame that held up the diamond of the walking-beam engine, but it was too small. With the help of some images from the Boulton & Watt collection, Montreal steamboat scholar Jean Belisle was able to help us identify this as one of the paddle wheel boxes’ support frames.
