Yoga mats are fabricated with specific fabrics to prevent yogi from slipping during their yoga sessions. They are often made from rubber and the first yoga mat was created in 1982. Before this advanced form of yoga mat, yogi performed yoga on bare ground or on an animal rug. Now, we can find a large variety of yoga mats: they are fabricated from plastic, rubber and sometimes hessian and cork. They are the physical representation of the large commerzialition of yoga during the 21st century.
On alignement yoga mats as this one, ligns are often printed to help yogi to position themselves correctly on the mat during the poses. Ligns indicate where the feet are to be placed and to which distance. The plastic ones are best for people practicing an energic yoga while the rubber ones are for people practicing meditation and poses. The yoga mats also vary in terms of grip, weight and price. They are often 180cm long and 60 cm large.
