More model informationGrotto 3 is the largest grotto in Yungang, also known as “Lingyan Temple.” According to historical literature, the Northern Wei Lingyan Temple can accommodate more than 3,000 people together for Buddhist activities. The original design was a tower temple with vast scale and unique form, but it failed to be completed in the Northern Wei Dynasty. The northern wall of the grotto is carved with the statues of Amitabha, Avalokitesvara, and Mahasthamaprapta, namely the “Three Saints of the West.” The 3D model of Grotto 3 of Yungang is a combination result of laser 3D scanning and photogrammetry technology, produced by the joint team of the Yungang Grottoes Academy and Zhejiang University.
