Zoomorphic Gold Pendant3D ModelNoAI
This ornate gold pendant is in the shape of a zoomorphic creature that has been interpreted as being a scorpion, lizard, or jaguar creature, but may also represent a mashed-up, fantastical animal. This pendant is from the Tallant Collection, curated at the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature, Bradenton, Florida. Tallant, an early avocational archaeologist who often used innovative metal detection techniques, recovered a number of metal objects from Florida archaeological sites. The piece was discovered in the Ortona Mound in Glades County, FL. The origin for the metal is northern Columbia or the Isthmus of Panama, and was likely salvaged by Florida’s native peoples from Spanish shipwrecks. Measuring 4.4 x 2.7 x 1.4 cm in size, the piece was probably suspended from the looped areas on the front feet and used as an amulet.
