The iron lighthouse at Cape Canaveral was originally constructed at in 1868, replacing a nearby brick tower (c. 1848) that was located on the east side of the Cape overlooking the beach. Heavy erosion at that site led to the construction of the iron lighthouse and to the loss of the brick tower. The lighthouse structure was dismantled and moved in 1893 to its present location 1-mile interior. The lighthouse and related station structures (historic and replica) are located on today's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Brevard County, Florida.
