Announcing the integration of the Sketchfab download API in Facebook AR Studio

Back to overview

UPDATE September 10th 2018: We’re pleased to announce that the integration is now live. Learn more at Facebook’s AR Studio site.

We are happy to share the integration of our Sketchfab Download API in Facebook AR Studio, announced at f8, their annual developer conference. Facebook AR studio is a suit of tools to create augmented reality filters for mobile. With this integration, Facebook developers can easily search and import Sketchfab content from our library of more than 150,000 assets available for free download under Creative Commons licensing.

We became the go-to way to publish 3D content by spending the past 6 years integrating Sketchfab in creation tools as a sharing feature., As a result, we’ve grown into the largest library of 3D models online. We released our download API a month ago to integrate back in all the places that need 3D content, with the vision of providing a search bar for the 3D world. Having Sketchfab integrated on both the upload and download sides makes our platform a central piece of the 3D/VR/AR ecosystem. Partnering with Facebook is an important milestone on our path to make our download API the industry standard.

Right now our download API – and this integration – only gives access to free content. Our goal is to eventually include paid content from the Sketchfab store as well, so that our creators can benefit from those integrations. We also want the API to give access to your own content, so that you can easily access it anywhere you need it.

* Thank you to Etienne from OpenFrame for the videos.

  • Hi Fabio, we’re pleased to announce that the integration is now live!

Hi, it’s fantastic. I’ve already tried it but I can not find the models I’ve inserted. Do I have to wait a few more days? Thank you

  • Hi Fabio, do you mean you can’t find the models you have inserted from Sketchfab into AR studio, or you cannot find your Sketchfab models in the library? To find your models in the library, you need to make sure they are set to downloadable (we do plan to add a feature to let you access your own non downloadable models as well). As for the models you have inserted in AR studio, they are in the bottom left panel under assets.

  • Fabio says:

Ok: only the downloadable templates visible in the AR Studio library. Is it not possible in any other way? If I do not want to make them downloadable, but only that I am the owner? Thank you

  • Right now no, but working on it, so hopefully soon.

  • Fabio says:

    OK thanks!!!
