Mad Science Contest: World Domination has been achieved!

Back to overview

It was the craziest contest theme so far and I believe also the one that gave everyone the most fun: Mad Science. Super villains, doomsday devices or just ideas that were totally off the wall – you guys made it happen! Check out the 40 awesome entries and read on to see who have achieved World Domination (well, Sketchfab Domination at least ;-).

All entries were judged by the entire Sketchfab team as well as our Community Judges, the winners of Heroic Voxels. The vote of a Community Judge carried twice the weight of a team vote – they’re the experts after all. We also asked each judge to comment on their favorite entry. Here’s who we had on board:

Ready? Let’s go!

3rd place: So much Corgi! by Jose Guilherme

Who doesn’t love Corgis? We often have one running around in our New York office too! (Without the jetpack, sadly). Jose Guilherme did a great job with this excitable little fellow.

Here’s what judge NomadKing said about this entry:

With a great sense of style and pose, Jose’s Corgi really springs to life. The feeling of power from the oversized jetpack mixed with the care-free look on the dog’s face, bring a smile to my face every time. Simple but well made.

Jose wins a $100 Amazon gift certificate (or similar), 3 months of Sketchfab PRO and a Sketchfab Cardboard VR Viewer

2nd place: Dr. Sylvester & M.O.U.S.E Exterminator by Jakob Baldwin

One of the few animated entries, Jakob has done a great job at packing complete little story into one scene. Impressive work!

Jakob wins a $150 Amazon gift certificate or similar, a Sketchfab T-Shirt, 6 months of Sketchfab PRO and 2 Sketchfab Cardboard VR Viewers

1st place Sweet Dreams, Bitter City! by Roumen Filipov

NomadKing writes:

This entry embodied the theme of the contest perfectly – what could be madder than a giant robot turning a city into candy? Add to that some great texture work, fun details and brilliant posing, and the end result is something quite special.

Edi Sagala says:

When I see this model, I saw something. I don’t know why she is really excited. And when I zoom out of the view, and wow .. I understand why. She wants to change the city, she wants to a make her dreams come true. “”SUGAR!! I WANT THIS CITY AS SWEET AS SUGAR!”” she shouts. Roumen tells the story very well. All things that exist can tell what happened. Cool robot design, even it inspired by cupcake but you can made it to be a cool robot. And nice color pallete. I can see the city become sweet.
Great job.. 🙂

Midio says:

This model is very well done and incredibly fun! From the cookie wheels to the buildings transforming into cakes, the author provided us with a glimpse of a mad scientist story that is indeed very sweet to look at and made me hungry for more! Awesome description, GREAT model, texture, lighting and overall concept!

Roumen takes home a $250 Amazon gift certificate or similar, a Sketchfab Hoodie, 12 months of Sketchfab PRO and 3 Sketchfab Cardboard VR Viewers!

Thanks to everyone who participated! We’re already planning our next large contests and they’ll be *very* exciting indeed. Stay tuned!
