Meet the Masters: Rik van den Biggelaar

Back to overview

The Sketchfab Masters are a group of super passionate and active community members. They are helping us run community activities, write tutorials and help out community members with support and feedback.

Today, meet Rik van den Biggelaar from the Netherlands – one of our aspiring game designers.

Can you introduce yourself?

image00I am Rik van den Biggelaar from the Netherlands. My interest in 3D started back in 2009 when I started studying at Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht (GLU) as a game designer. After I finished my education at GLU, I wanted to improve even more so I searched for another school I could attend which was Digital Arts and Entertainment in Kortrijk Belgium. I’m currently in my last year here as an Technical Artist. After I graduate, I’ll be looking for a job in the game industry.

What is your expertise?

My expertise is making game ready assets. In the years that I’ve been working with 3D, I’ve learned a lot of different methods and programs to work with and I always try to combine the things I learned to make my pipeline as fast and easy as possible. Also fixing issues and creating workarounds are the things I do best.

Although I know different styles my favorite style I like to use is the handpainted style. This because I like the cartoony feel to things.

How do you use Sketchfab?

I use Sketchfab for multiple reasons. I use it for presenting my work but also while I’m making games. For example, if I need feedback on a model I can just upload it with one-click and send the link to my team member so he can check it out without having to transfer files and starting up programs.

What will you be working on in the future?

While I’m in my last year I’ll be looking for an internship from February 2017 till June 2017, which means I’ll be making some portfolio pieces this summer. All the portfolio pieces I make will be uploaded to Sketchfab to make it easier for companies to check out my work!

Besides that, I’m also working on a game called Go Go Poncho! Like said earlier, Sketchfab is a big part of speeding the feedback process up in creating the game. Check me out on my Artstation, Facebook, and of course, Sketchfab
