Sketchfab Importer for Cinema 4D now Available

Back to overview

Cinema 4D users can now access over 200,000 freely downloadable 3D models from Sketchfab using our new Cinema 4D Importer plugin.

The plugin uses our Download API to let you search Creative Commons licensed models from our community and download them directly into your Cinema 4D scene.

Models can be searched by keyword(s) or browsed. The addon then presents thumbnails of results and each one can be opened on Sketchfab.com for a full 3D preview if desired before downloading directly into Cinema 4D.

Materials and textures are also loaded in automatically and approximated as closely as possible. Animation is not supported yet. These models will import, but without animation data.

Access your own models too

In addition to downloadable models, Sketchfab PRO and above subscribers can also import their own models into a scene. These models can remain view-only or even private on sketchfab.com itself, so only you can access them. For more information see the announcement about this new option we made earlier today.

To search your own models, check the ‘My Models’ option in the search bar:

I would like to say your instructions for Mac:
“If you cannot find it, you can also go to it from Edit -> Preferences and then by clicking on Open Preferences Folder at the bottom of the Preferences window. This will open the folder where you should find the plugins.”
Doesn’t seem to be an accurate process. When I put it that plugins folder, it won’t load. It needs to go into the plugins folder within the Application plugins folder.

Will there ever be a fix to the SketchFab exporter? Such as Sketchfab exporter for Cinema 4D?

  • xan says:

Most models import really, really bad, geometry and material assignment is a mess.

  • Any chance to update for s22?

  • oddbody says:

    How about an r23 update?
    thx!

  • Devin Sloan says:

  • adamHuman says:

import should be allowed from local file as well

  • Kenn says:

Any progress on the R23 version?

  • Abby Crawford says:

Kenn, you’d have to check in with Maxon about that. 🙂

  • Steve says:

Useless!! No matter where i put it (custom plugin folder or Maxon) even if i add the path to the preferences it wont show up in neighter version 20 or 21

  • Bart Veldhuizen says:

@Steve we published an update last month, please try that: https://sketchfab.com/blogs/community/plugin-updates-for-unity-cinema-4d-and-blender/

  • Steve says:

Yup, thats the one i use. Even with the bridge it wont work Neither in 20/21 or 22

  • Hi @Steve.

The C4D plugin API changes between versions, which results in our different plugin versions not being interchangeable between C4D releases:

    * Our latest release (1.4.0) supports only C4D R23, and is available here: https://github.com/sketchfab/c4d-plugin/releases/tag/1.4.0
    * However, if you use an older version of C4D such as R21 or R22, the version 1.4.0 of our plugin won’t be supported. You’ll have to use the versions 1.3.1, which is available here: https://github.com/sketchfab/c4d-plugin/releases/tag/1.3.1
    * For R20, you might need to try the version 1.3.0, available here: https://github.com/sketchfab/c4d-plugin/releases/tag/1.3.0

    Hope this helps !

  • Arnaud says:

So in R23 I get this error when I look at the extension console:
“ImportError: :dlopen(/Applications/Maxon Cinema 4D R23/resource/modules/python/libs/python37.macos.framework/lib/python3.7/lib-dynload/zlib.cpython-37-darwin.so, 2): no suitable image found. Did find:
    /Applications/Maxon Cinema 4D R23/resource/modules/python/libs/python37.macos.framework/lib/python3.7/lib-dynload/zlib.cpython-37-darwin.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture”

  • Cheryl says:

Won’t show up on my extension menu, I followed your instructions. But it seems like this plugins won’t be able to work on Cinema 4D Mac

  • Abby Crawford says:

Hi Cheryl. You are correct – right now the plugin does not work on Macs. We’re working on resolving the issue, however, and hope to have an update for you in the near future.

  • xiel says:

literally impossible to use with cinema 4d 2023 version, no matter where you put the plugin. would like to be notified when it does

  • Ross says:

    sketchfab-win-1.5.0 does not work with C4D 2023.2.

    Any chance of an update?
