A few weeks ago we hosted one of the first weekend virtual reality (vr) jam in New York. Over two hundred amateur vr enthusiasts attended both locally in New York and remotely online using Itch.io. For most of the attendees this was the first time they had been exposed to Unity, Unreal Engine, VR headsets (Oculus Rift, Vive, Gear VR) and the hackathon/game jam scene.


Over the course of the weekend there were thirty vr experiences created. Thirty! Three of the games sourced their game models from Sketchfab using the proper cc licensing of course. I’m so proud of everyone because they exceeded my expectations and have reinforced the point that anyone can create content if you put your mind to it.


In retrospect, it was a very rewarding experience and a lot of fun. I can’t wait until next year. Oh btw! You can play all the vr experiences with the link below:
