{"id":142059975543,"date":"2017-01-25T17:27:40","date_gmt":"2017-01-25T16:27:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.sketchfab.com\/?p=142059975543"},"modified":"2017-01-25T18:30:16","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T17:30:16","slug":"europeana-grows-sketchfab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/blogs\/community\/europeana-grows-sketchfab\/","title":{"rendered":"Europeana Grows With Sketchfab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re proud to announce that we have been working closely with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.europeana.eu\/portal\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Europeana<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Europe&#8217;s digital repository for cultural heritage \u2013 to help add new\u00a0dimensions to the preservation of the continent&#8217;s history: 3D and VR.<\/p>\n<p>Over 3,500 cultural heritage institutions contribute\u00a0to the platform\u00a0and are\u00a0adding more and more Sketchfab scenes daily.<\/p>\n<p>From internationally recognized names such as\u00a0the Rijksmuseum and the British Library to smaller regional museums from every member country of the European Union, Europeana\u00a0houses over 54 million artworks, artifacts, books, videos, and sound files from across the continent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Newgrange, in\u00a0County Meath, Ireland is just one of the many heritage sites shared\u00a0on Europeana\u00a0by <a href=\"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/discoveryprogramme\">The Discovery Programme<\/a>, the Centre for Advanced Irish Archaeologic\u00a0Research:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"sketchfab-embed-wrapper\">    <iframe title=\"Newgrange, Co. Meath\" id=\"\" class=\"\" width=\"690\" height=\"388\" src=\"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/models\/2d372a1cb6d646a78401bfd4c77509d3\/embed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; xr-spatial-tracking\" allowfullscreen=\"\" mozallowfullscreen=\"true\" webkitallowfullscreen=\"true\" xr-spatial-tracking=\"true\" execution-while-out-of-viewport=\"true\" execution-while-not-rendered=\"true\" web-share=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Europeana went live in 2008 launching with 4.5 million contributions, with the aim of making cultural heritage accessible to all online.<\/p>\n<p>Many institutions began digitizing antiquities early in this process, but it is only in recent years with the introduction of technologies like Sketchfab that the opportunity to share these experiences in 3D (<a href=\"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/virtual-reality\">and now VR<\/a>) has been possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belgian Europeana Contributor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/visualdimension\">Visual Dimension<\/a>\u00a0uses Sketchfab to share digital reconstructions of past European life based on historic data:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/models\/70809dd7e4914a3784ba94d8840d10bf<\/p>\n<p>Europeana is growing thanks to Sketchfab, but there&#8217;s still much more to do.<\/p>\n<p>If you represent a European Cultural Institution, remember that <a href=\"https:\/\/sketchfab.com\/museums\">we proudly offer free PRO Business accounts<\/a> to show our support for the important work you do.
