Sketchfab recently held the\u00a0Sketchfast 4 competition. We hold them to really challenge 3D modelers and designers to make things in a weekend. We only tell people about the contest on Friday and they have until\u00a0Monday noon<\/span><\/span>\u00a0to submit their designs. That way a person\u2019s true skill and drive can be seen in their 3D designs. All the work must be original and done in the 72 hours.<\/p>\n

This past Sketchfast saw 30 wonderful entries of\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0helmets & glasses made by the Sketchfab community. We were very pleased with the creativity, inventiveness and originality of the designs. The quality of the work in the short time span also blew us away.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0Monocle<\/a> concept was chosen by the Sketchfab team and Josh from Solidsmack<\/a> as the winner. This design from JC Volumic seemed to be completely ready for production and look like it could have come straight out of the Sony factory of the future.<\/p>\n

Chaitanya Krishnan<\/a>\u2019s Universal\u00a0AR<\/span><\/a>\u00a0makes use of the installed base of glasses in the world by clipping easily onto existing glasses.<\/p>\n

In third place was perhaps the most futuristic design a\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0contact lens, by\u00a0Costas Fros. This would be much easier to wear and connect the wearer to the \u201cnetwork\u201d on a much deeper level. It is powered by solar sells at the top of the contact lens.<\/p>\n

The Survival\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0helmet<\/a> by\u00a0Dennis Haupt\u00a0<\/a>complete with medical kit, thermal imaging, night vision, coffee and solar panels won the community prize.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve showcased the 4 winners already, and would like to show you the rest of the designs, in no particular order.<\/p>\n

Adhim<\/a>\u2019s gamer style comfortable looking\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0headset<\/span>.<\/p>\n

V.Silvera<\/a>\u2019s stylish glasses have a \u201c180\u00ba angle overlay holographic screen. Infrared sensors work with the gps to map the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

NearKun<\/a>\u00a0has a home console and outdoor version of the same\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0set pointing to companies making add ons, different and interchangeable versions for home and outdoor use.<\/p>\n

Ond\u0159ej Holan<\/a>\u2019s glasses update you with news of twitter followers, distances in lightyears for use in space and come with a holographic projector.<\/p>\n

Revel<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0AR<\/span>\u2019s can be swiveled up so you can look at the real world and concentrate on listening to music.<\/p>\n

Game designer\u00a0Akaitz<\/a>\u00a0made his especially for stealth use.<\/p>\n

Iomac<\/a>\u2019s comes with a remote controlled helicopter to fly around with you and capture video.<\/p>\n

Vondecrolock<\/a> made an Existenz and Alien inspired\u00a0headset<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Masterxeon1001<\/a>\u00a0has a detachable\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0viewer on his\u00a0headset<\/span>\u00a0that he made using Blender.<\/p>\n

Games artist\u00a0Jauntytunes<\/a>\u00a0contemporary glasses have a split lens and are partially brain controlled.<\/p>\n

DeceballHormuz\u00a0has an\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0pirate monocle fit for Indiana Jones or Jack Sparrow.<\/p>\n

Manish Kumar<\/a>‘s\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0add ons act as add ons to traditional glasses including a projector and camera.<\/p>\n

Skany<\/a>\u2019s slick glasses can be customized to the color of your favorite sports team.<\/p>\n

MBZKrea<\/a>\u2019s Sketchup & Blender design cups over one ear and covers only one eye much like helicopter pilot helmets. Did you know by the way that to train to see with one eye through the targeting system while flying with the other eye, heli pilots practice by driving cars with eye patches and periscopes?<\/p>\n

Gary Lloyd<\/a>‘s\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0Gaming\u00a0headset<\/span>\u2019s fly like eyes were created in 3DS Max and photoshop.<\/p>\n

The ARBans by\u00a0KMiklas<\/a>\u00a0incorporated traditional styling and design cues from the marque into a modern\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0set.<\/p>\n

Artur<\/a>\u2019s Blender\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0set is unfinished and this is a shame since its very snazzy.<\/p>\n

Clemnt<\/a>\u00a0took the ballsy move to enter the contest with his first ever 3D model!<\/p>\n

Andyhdr\u00a0<\/a>decided against modern things and instead made a steampunk\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0helmet.<\/p>\n

Roger Bootsma<\/a>\u2019s come complete with a neck band that acts as a health monitoring device.<\/p>\n

Computerwhiz<\/a>\u00a0has gone the extreme rectangular route with his glasses.<\/p>\n

VFX artist\u00a0Pavel Sharnov<\/a>\u00a0shows you how his classic design projects a hologram for the wearer.<\/p>\n

Roberto Simone Silvestri\u00a0has gone for shiny shiny and oversized comfortable headphones.<\/p>\n

JonathanHilairet<\/a>\u2019s are gesture controlled and he\u2019s designed a system comprising of 4000 mirrors and laser light to work his\u00a0AR<\/span>\u00a0glasses.<\/p>\n

Joshua Cole<\/a>\u2019s glasses use a wrap around screen that is adjustable.<\/p>\n

Mwksf<\/a>\u00a0made his with soft bindings and an intriguing flourish of a shape around and on top of the head.<\/p>\n

The entries were wonderful and chock full of great ideas. Far from being only a fantasy exploration many ideas were also quite practical and would augment current augmented reality\u00a0headsets<\/span>\u00a0and glasses. We are immensely proud to be a platform for such great creativity and 3D modeling skill!<\/p>\n
