Fnatic Used 3D to Successfully Announce the Launch of a New Apparel Collection
Fnatic, a leading esports organization
Fnatic is a leading global esports organisation with professional teams in some of the most popular competitive games (including League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Dota 2, Fortnite) competing at the highest level since its creation in 2004. Today Fnatic is one of the most recognisable and respected brands in esports.
Fnatic recently used the Sketchfab 3D viewer and configurator API to announce the launch of their special apparel collection for League of Legends Worlds.
The challenge: bringing interactivity to Fnatic eCommerce
- Successfully announce the launch of their new apparel collection
- Get people to sign up to be informed on the launch date of the release
- Bring more immersion and interactivity to their ecommerce platform
The solution
A teaser page announcing their new collection: Fnatic created a teaser page announcing the launch of their special apparel collection “Worlds” Jersey and Jacket during the League of Legends World Championship 2018.

- The possibility to sign up on the launch page: People were able to sign up to be informed on the launch date of the Worlds collection.

- Using the Sketchfab API, they embedded a 3D model of the jersey and one of the jackets: Fnatic gave their fans a good look at the design, the ability to look at every detail and to play around with the new collection. Fnatic hides easter eggs inside the models, creating an entertaining experience and a lot of engagement with their community.
Why Sketchfab
Fnatic chose Sketchfab for the following reasons:
Sketchfab has already been successfully used for developing numerous interactive 3D models on the web and mobile for various brands.
Sketchfab has a strong community space.
The result: a massive success
“30,000 people signed up for the collection launch. It was a success beyond what we hoped for.”
—Benoit Pagotto, Brand Director at Fnatic
Sketchfab 3D viewer helped Fnatic:
- Successfully announce the launch of their new apparel collection: the new outfit can be viewed prior to purchase and customers can sign up to be informed on the launch date of the new collection. Fnatic had more than 30,000 people sign up for the collection launch, which received significant social media attention.
- Enrich their ecommerce website with immersion and interactivity: customers are able to explore the new apparel from all angles, zoom in, and zoom out.
- Engage with their audience: the Sketchfab viewer was leveraged to hide easter eggs inside the models, creating a fun experience and hype around the release.
The next steps for Fnatic and Sketchfab
Integrate a more complex model: a gaming room. The page has been repurposed recently for another Sketchfab model: their collector edition worlds box. This time they integrated a more complex model, a gaming room, and put even more easter eggs for their audience to find.
Use Sketchfab on their Shopify platform: they plan to use Sketchfab in different long term projects, and to have Sketchfab models for all items on their Shopify platform.
Create more interactive pages to connect with fans: they’re also envisioning more interactive pages in the future, where the model would evolve through time, adding more easter eggs as people discover them. It’s opening a lot of possibilities for them as a brand to connect with their fans.
“We believe this kind of eCommerce experience is the future of retail. We’re excited to be leading the way from the world of esports.”
—Benoit Pagotto, Brand Director at Fnatic
