More model information

Description: This is a 3D laser surface scan of a left upper incisor. It was listed as an incisor of Toxodon platensis in the 1884 Royal College of Surgeons catalogue and retained this listing until 2018 when Jerry Hooker and Pip Brewer from the Museum reassigned it.

Comments: Diprotodon optatum was the largest Australian marsupial to have lived. It was the first Australian fossil mammal to have been described by Richard Owen, who described and named the other fossil mammal specimens collected by Darwin.

This has been scanned as part of the Museum’s Darwin Fossil Mammals digitisation project. Find out more at www.nhm.ac.uk/darwinsfossils.

Specimen number: NHMUK PV M 100017

Visit the dataset (https://doi.org/10.5519/0086786) and specimen record on the Museum’s Data Portal for images and to request high resolution scan data.
